Course Objectives:

The course will provide accounting and finance professionals with the knowledge and skills to understand what Intellectual Property (IP) is and how it should be managed and reported. Because many intangible assets are not permitted by accounting standards to be formally included in financial statements, there is a need for professional accountants to extend their skills to encompass this very important business area.

The course provides examples of a wide range of accounting and reporting techniques.  It is directed to helping professional accountants develop a detailed understanding of the scope of IP issues, so as to enable them to make a productive contribution to IP management, valuation and accounting.

The Intellectual Property for Accounting Professionals course is designed that each unit of the course uses a multi-sensory learning platform that includes videos, learning interactions; quizzes; and case studies looking at different examples of IP in the real world, and for which you will be challenged to provide IP management advice.
There are 5 units in the course. Each unit comprises of 5 hours of structured learning and 25 hours for the 5 unit package. Units can be taken either as an individual unit or as a fully integrated package. The individual units cover the following areas:

  1. Introduction to Intellectual Property
  2. Industrial Property
  3. Copyright and Other IP
  4. Valuing and accounting for IP
  5. IP Outlook and Trends
Each individual unit in the course is structured to qualify for 5 hours of CPD/CPE hours or 25 hours for the whole course (refer to your professional organisation for compliance requirements).

Upon completion of the course (5 units in total), a Professional Certificate in Intellectual Property will be issued certified by the WORLD CERTIFICATION INSTITUTE.
